Seeking comments

I work for a small company with less than 2 dozen trucks.Being a family business several family members work there, children and grandchildren of the owner. The guys in the shop sometimes spot trailers in the area and use trucks that are on the yard.My problem(?) is that I know that sometimes mine has been used for"joyriding".One relative ,who has substance abuse issues, just seems to help himself to after hours use of the trucks and the drivers belongings.Last night I got to my truckto leave and my bed was messed up,my logbook which I leave in the passenger seat was laying in the floor, mirrors moved, doors left unlocked and vent glass open.I don`t know who did this but I did call the dispatcher and raised hell.Told him if this happens again that I would find another job.I take pride in MY truck and I work hard to buy the things inside of it.They are good people to work for and other than having "blinders" on concerning relatives substance abuse I have no complaints.
What do you guys think?I have alot of reasons why I don`t want anybody driving something that I trust my life to all week.Would be interested in hearing your opinions, though. Thanks in advance.Should also mention that this person rides his buddies around, too.

I would try to fix it with the company, since u like the job an all. It's hard to find some companies like that you know. I would try to stick it out an get that solved.

Anybody else have trouble with people in your assigned truck? My problem is after 30+years and owning trucks,I am very particular.Add to that friends killed in bigtrucks.I don`t feel comfortable driving anything that others(who don`t have any business in it)drive.Things happen that may cause me trouble,or worse. They ride around jamming gears, etc. but I will be the one brokedown later.Would this bother anybody else or am I being unreasonable?

Yes this would bother me, and no I don't think you are being unreasonable. But I also don't think you stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting the situation corrected, anytime in the near future.

I am assuming, (to use a bad word,) that you have no options other than to leave it in the company yard over night, or on the weekends, or whenever this is happening? I am also assuming that since it is a company owned truck, that a set of keys for it is left in either the shop, or the terminal, and that this sorry substance abuser has access to the keys?

If these two assumptions are not correct, then there is your answer. But if they are, I'm afraid you are pretty much going to have to live with it, or find another job. At least until this person wrecks one of the trucks, or gets him/herself thrown in jail. Even being thrown in jail is not likely to stop it, as people who go to jail get out sooner or later. Usually sooner. . .

I suppose you could take this person out and beat the dog schidt out of him to convince him to stay out of your truck. But then YOU would probably be the one going to jail. . .

you talked to the dispatcher about it? he's not going to do anything. have you talked to the OWNER about it? or are you afraid to because it's his relative who is messing with your truck? I would think if you work for someone who doesn't care that their relatives smoke crack and then joyride in company equipment, yeh, maybe you should be looking around.

working for a family run operation is tough no matter what your job is. i can relate. you can ignore it and i dont think you will (i wouldnt either lol) or start constructively complaining. start with your dispatcher, then go up the ladder. do you think the owner knows his relative is doing those things? sometimes people are afraid to say anything when it comes to a relative being a moron. but... be prepared for what might happen. the owner just might not like hearing what you have to say. good luck

If I were you, I'd consider the possibility that ANYone drivin' the Big truck that YOU drive, could be involved in a serious incident --- and flee the scene, ----
Only to have a witness get the Big truck big number and the company name.
The Big truck is assigned to YOU.
Who do you reckon the law will question about it?

Unless, of course, whomever was actually drivin' it steps forward and admits they left the scene of an incident.
But, what are the odds?

It's YOUR drivin' record and CAREER on the line.
Better have a good, reliable witness to put YOU somewhere OTHER than at the scene.
Just in case.

He knows what is going on but I don`t think he realizes how bad the problem is.Which is natural, when you love someone and want to beleive what they say.Especially true when you are 70 years old and facing a problem you don`t understand.I`ve shared a bit of my opinions with my boss in the last couple of days because I`ve been through this B.S. myself. He is a good man but I have never known him to make up his mind on what someone tells him.I just hope he doesn`t get his heart broken over this situation.
