Sorry to ruffle your feathers.

But DOT can interpret things to their liking. I put this out there in case it was the one used.

I will try and watch out for any irrelevant posts you might make.

While true not wearing footwear doesn't stop an effective exit of a cab, but take into consideration where one might have to exit a cab. Think Wy. in the middle of winter or the Phoenix,Az. in the middle of summer. I wouldn't want bare or sock covered feet in ethier situation.

The way it was explained to me way back when I was in my teens was that it was illegal, and the reason was the heat transferance from the engine to the metal under the thin carpet caused discomfort to pain and a potentially hazardous situation.

If true, this was more of an issue in the 70's and 80's when cars were much more basic in their design.

Hauling the girls

As for the girls,
a good sports bra helps.

As for my feet, just feels "WRONG" to drive without trusty kicks.
~Arch/ankle support reduce fatigue.
~Protection from injury and the elements a MUST.

I use mats over my carpet to keep clean. I would not wear my work shoe into my birth area anyway. Just for driving. Use a pair of slide ons when I'm parked.

I wonder if you had an accident if you could be charged for careless/reckless or negligence...if caught with stocking/bare feet?

WTH? You have more problems to worry about than what is on your feet.
When you do clutch try one foot.

I know in my job, steel toe shoes are required at shipper, and plants period.. I got caught once, with my sneakers on from safety, and was given a warning, and told to leave the yard, until my shoes were on my feet. Luck for me I only live 5 minutes away..
