I need to find out how to show "no rpm" while idling, so I can sleep in comfort without racking up idle time. My company has a "barbaric" idle policy. I don't idle needlessly, but I do like to sleep in comfort, and it always puts me over the company paramaters. I'm currently in an 06 Columbia with a Det. 60. There used to be a way to bypass from the diagnostic plug by grounding one of the pins, but I've tried that in this truck, and it doesn't work. HELP PLEASE!!, thanks:biggrin_25525:

Quit, and find a real company to work for. Bet the boss runs his AC all night at home, or next time you are at the home office pull the outside disconects on the AC units and watch them sweat. Is their comfort more important than yours?

Easiest way is to pull the fuse for it. Depends on what kind of truck you are running where the fusebox is located. The owner's manual will tell you most likely.

I used that trick a few times when I had to run over my hours to make a delivery and didn't want my truck redflagged back at the terminal. Then I got smart and realized being redflagged at the terminal wasn't the worst thing that could happen when I ran over my hours....

Even if you find a way to keep the qualcomm from detecting your idle time, how are you going to keep the trucks computer from logging the idle time?
We didn't have qualcomm's on our trucks at the last company I drove for, yet once a month they downloaded stat's from the on board computer and checked idle percentage and mileage rates. The drivers with the best mileage and lowest idle rate got a bonus once a year.
Everybody else got their butt chewed.

Just pull the fuse out, then they won't know anything, they might get a bit suspicious though, when they can't truck you

doing so can cause a problem with the company you are with. most companies that use qualcomm, have a policy that if you tamper with it, you could be fired.

I'm out in Laredo. Theres a sea of bottomfeeder company drivers that are sitting in their trucks in 105+ heat baking their brains out. I didnt do it, and I'm not going to do it. Wasteful beancounting idiots setting policy telling people that they have to suffer while waiting on a load.

Had a woman send me a message on a qualcomm a few years ago when I got laid over in Minot, ND one winter.

MsBeancounter: Driver, you have been idling your truck for 24 hours straight. This is unacceptable.

Six: When the sun was up, the outside temperature was 3 degrees.

MsBeancounter: Driver if you are cold, close the curtain, bundle up, turn the heat on high for 15 minutes and then shut the truck off.

Six: I have a better idea. How about I get a motel and call you guys in the morning to send a service truck to get this one started? That service call will be more expensive than a week's worth of idling.

MsBeancounter: Something wrong with the truck? why will you need a service call.

Six: Youre really good at your job, arent you? I told you that when the sun was up, it was 3 degrees outside. Its 15 below. If you turn a truck off in these temps, it will not start in the morning.

    Idiots.

Oh yeah, that would go over well with me. I'd be likely to just get the room and let the company deal with the no-start.

Our company has a cold weather policy.. the temp drops below 5 degrees and we're not allowed to even shut the truck off except to fuel. You can drive by our yard on a cold night and see every truck idling. :)
