Some are longer to meet the bridge laws. Short wheelbase limits your load capacity. If all your doing is pulling a van that doesn't matter, if your hauling overweight loads the longer the better. Also keep in mind the wheelbase doesn't change the empty weight as much as you'd think. I think depending on the frame size you choose 4' adds less than 200#. Longer tractors ride better, and just like the "spread axles are harder on tires" argument, a longer tractor may take more room to turn but since 99% of an average trip is spent driving straight down the road it's a non issue.

I'd bet that the O/O with the 310" 379 can better maneuver his truck than a company driver in a 190" wb POS.
Let's take a small poll. In a parking lot or a dock you have the option of parking next to either of these two trucks. Which are you more concerned is probably going to take your hood off?
#1 with his ridiculously long WB

#2 with his shorter more maneuverable set back front axle truck?[IMG]

They are not over rated when it comes to resale, the cab, dash and interior go for quite a bit.:biggrin_25525:

:biggrin_25520: Does a fleet of 1 count? Sorry but I had to ask. We have 1 truck and it's a 377 Pete. But that does say we are 100%, right? We'll be adding more trucks this year and they will all be Peterbilts.

Good luck on your search! :biggrin_25519:

Because you are dealing with Wise arse truckers that insist on believing that everything that enters there head is the best or right way of doing things. I have been a trucker for 31 years, so I understand how one can fall into the trap of thinking of the negative side of things so easily. Some just cant answer a simple question. They have to go around the block with other BS before giving an answer to the original topic. Not at all trying to piss anyone off. Because I'm guilty of it too. These guys that get online and say they have seen it all with only one year experience make me chuckle. News Flash...Even I haven't seen it all.

Since I see more idiots driving for SWIFT, JB Hunt, Schnieder, US Express and these other companies hiring student drivers with little to no experience and since I've seen all too many times these company drivers with little to no experience (even in cab overs-which you don't see a whole lot of any more~~~telling my age now) take off the hood of a really nice Peter Car or Kitty Whopper I would have to say that if the only place left to park was next to the swift truck I think I'd just go on down the road. I'd park next to the Pete any day of the week, simply because he's probably not a retard as anyone with any miles under their belt will tell you (sorry SWIFT---you only hire Retard wannabe's, just like JB Hunt and Schneider and that's from experience as I called just to find out what the hiring requirements were and was told I had too much experience and they would not hire me......Really? How the #### do you get too much experience? I'm guessing they must get a bonus for every hood they tear off or every bridge they deliver).
