Some are longer to meet the bridge laws. Short wheelbase limits your load capacity. If all your doing is pulling a van that doesn't matter, if your hauling overweight loads the longer the better. Also keep in mind the wheelbase doesn't change the empty weight as much as you'd think. I think depending on the frame size you choose 4' adds less than 200#. Longer tractors ride better, and just like the "spread axles are harder on tires" argument, a longer tractor may take more room to turn but since 99% of an average trip is spent driving straight down the road it's a non issue.
I'd bet that the O/O with the 310" 379 can better maneuver his truck than a company driver in a 190" wb POS.
Let's take a small poll. In a parking lot or a dock you have the option of parking next to either of these two trucks. Which are you more concerned is probably going to take your hood off?
#1 with his ridiculously long WB
#2 with his shorter more maneuverable set back front axle truck?

Does a fleet of 1 count? Sorry but I had to ask. We have 1 truck and it's a 377 Pete. But that does say we are 100%, right? We'll be adding more trucks this year and they will all be Peterbilts.
