Question for my neighbors to the west, Does NJ post bridge clearance heights accurately? In NY we usually have about a foot more than what it is posted. I was in FT. Lee the other day and came to a 13'2" and wasnt sure. Thanks and be safe!

I would never ever trust what the sign says. In all my searching (this was years ago) all I found was the federal highway sysytem is required to be marked. Of course most are but don't ever think they keep them up to date.

Your clearnce can change. If they pave the road you can take a few inches away. They may do work on the bridge itself that might lower it. You never know. All you can do is know for sure what your load is and the only way you'll know that is to measure it. If you're within a couple of inches going in then there's a good chance you will not make it out. If there's no trucks around and I'm not sure if the sign is correct I give it at least 6" before I'll try. Then I'll crawl inch by inch until I'm through. It's better to go slow than wait for a tow truck to pull you out.
