A lot of people will tell you not to quit without a job to go to, but with OTR that is not always easy to do. I have had times when I was wanting off the road and would put in a AP and get a dozen or so states away and get a call can you come in for a interview tomorrow?

10/30/09 week 3, day 5

424 miles
9.25 hrs logged (14)
$144.16
I delivered to Rock Mart GA this afternoon and went over to Coca-Cola in Atlanta to grab my next load going to our yard in Memphis, still not close to Ohio!
I watched the railroad guys swap out the tank cars at Coca-Cola, that was neat. I started talking with the freight conductor, what a good guy! He really loves his job, even after 6 years! He let me get up in the engine and gave me the nickel tour. That was pretty cool! those locomotives are HUGE. they even have a flush toilet in them. No pee bottles or poop in a bag! It was really refreshing to talk with someone who loves his job. Maybe I need to look into a carreer on the rails. They make a butt load of money and most guys are home every nite. Has anyone out here worked on the railroad? Maybe I'll start a new thread.

I was in the shop somewhere that I don't remember and stayed at the same motel as the train guys did and from listening to them, until you become and engineer life on the rails sucks as 1 it's UNION big time and you have to work your way up from conductor or whatever, throwing switches, doing the hooking up and all the dirty work until you make engineer! They really didn't like who they were working for and they were asking ME the same questions too about driving a truck! It's funny how you learn about things on the road!

Hmm, that's true. One of their many rules is "A pocket knife is not a tool and is not allowed on railroad property" if that gives any idea of the people you'll be working for. And their IQ.

you know it's going to be a bad day when...

...it turns to ###### while you are still in bed!
I havnt even gotton out of bed yet and already my day has turned to ######! I just called dickspatch to get my next load after I drop this one in Memphis in a few hours. They have me taking a dropped load out of Memphis going to Newark, NJ ! I would rather slam my male part in a sliding glass door repeatedly till I was unconsious than go to that God-foresaken armpit of the country! It gets worse, as of right now, they do not have a clue about a load out of that dump!
All I want to do is go home, meet my 14 day old grand-daughter, do some laundry, hug my wife and kids for the 1st time in a month, and FIND A NEW EMPLOYER! (in that order). Somebody shoot me!

start telling them, "no" until they finally decide to give things a whirl in your favor. i'd stop playing THEIR game at this point. any load that is going a different direction than home will be refused.

Ya know, I'm sitting at home, contemplating going back on the road after the holidays. The more I read, the more I start to hesitate. I may have to find another line of work, and at my age, that won't be easy. Yes, I'm 58, and yes, I know that's old.. But I know that I can't possibly put up with the amount of #### that you guys do. I dunno-trucking sure has gone to heck, along with many other occupations.

Welcome to Wal-Mart...

Would You Like Fries With That.....
