50% legal??? :-0 You mean the good, old days! When we could actually make money in ths job! I remember those days, when there was more freight than drivers could handle. It used to be alot more fun back then too. Or am I just remembering the good and forgeting the bad?

611 miles driven
10.25 hrs logged (18 hrs)
$207.74 earned
I delivered to Chicago, took 3.5 hrs to unload, then I had to hurry up to make my p/u in Manteno, IL.
What a crappy little town! Every where I looked it was no trucks allowed! Couldnt get a bite to eat or even find a bathroom! Once again, we want your freight but get out of our town as soon as you are empty or loaded.
Anyway, get to the shipper with 1/2 tank of fuel in the reefer, it is a live load, and this minimun wage rent-a-cop whose only joy in life to to screw with a trucker tells me I cant get loaded b/c I dont have enough fuel! No point in having an intelligent conversation with an unarmed individual, so I drive 30 mins to the nearest fuel stop, put 11 gallons in the damn trailer and drive 30 mins back to the shipper. Needless to say, I am all yakked off!
Then I find out the customer is pissed at me b/c the load was ready 24 hrs ago but my company (arent they awesome?) didnt have a trl dropped there to pre-load. I asked the girl if she needed the phone # for customer service b/c there was nothing I could do about it! I figured since the load was ready 24 hrs earlier that I would get loaded quickly? WRONG! 90 mins before they even put the dock plate in the truck and 2 hrs later, I was finally loaded! (3.5 hrs to load 38 pallets that was already staged 10' from the dock door, and we wonder why Unions are called slow and lazy!)
Now I have a choice to make, my day started at 0700, meaning at 2100 I have to shut down and take 10, but if I do that I will be late for my delivery appt. and will lose my next load (1500 mile run to Logan UT) and $500 and probably be stuck in Fulton, MO till Monday morning. So in keeping with the theme of the experiment, I said screw it and ran the damn load!
I made it to Fulton, MO around 0200, got a few hrs of sleep and managed to deliver on time, in spite of the rules! Now I just have to get these people at Dollar General to get me unloaded in the next 4 hrs or all my hard work will be for nothing as I wont make it to my p/u on time. Isnt trucking great???

village of manteno totally blows! swift actually has a terminal over there. why in the HELL would any company bother putting a terminal within a hostile town? i went through there once and got greeted on the CB by a local cop saying, "all truckers do what you need to do, and then get the hell outta here!" i wonder how much jerry is shelling out to the local politicians in order to keep operations rolling over there.

I am soooo glad I don't have HOS problems. I run it legal and get paid hourly for everything that slows me down.

I have been running pretty hot so I decided to chill out for awhile.
258 miles driven
7 hrs logged (12 actual)
I manged to get unloaded fairly quickly at Dollar General this morning! (3 hrs) And the lumper charges were put on account! I didnt have to pay! Why cant they all do it like that???
I left Fulton and made it to my p/u 1 hr early so they made me wait. No big deal, I got my paperwork caught up. Finally loaded after 2 hrs and I'm headed to Logan, Utah (north of Salt Lake City).
I dont deliver till 0100 on the 20th which gives me 84 hrs to drive 1395 miles. I figure the trip will take 25 hrs of driving and 2 rest breaks, and 2 stops for fuel/shower. Thats about 47, call it 48 hrs minimum transit time. I think I can make it. So if anyone has any ideas for something to do or something to see between St. Charles, MO and Logan, UT, please let me know! Maybe a really good restaurant or tourist attraction that would help me kill some time.

if you're gonna be jamming along i-25, i suggest taking a break and eating a kickass cinnamon roll at johnson's corner in loveland, co. it's off of exit 254. better leave room for that roll, though. it's a meal all by itself!
