| Now, FYI: If you stop in the scales and ask for a DOT inspection they WILL note it on the Inspection and OOS form! THAT is a great way to get fired! Your call especially in this hiring economy! NOTE: If you never saw the safety flick called "Steer tire blow out" here's a tip; When a steer tire blows out KEEP YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKES! PERIOD! Do not even touch them BUT keep your foot on the gas and MAINTAIN control of the truck then take your foot off of the gas and let the truck slow and then use light braking pressure because if you put to much brake pressure on the truck will pull really hard to the side of the blow out! There is NO reason for you go into a ditch or have an accident because of a steering tire blow out! The reason you see a truck in the ditch is the driver stood on the brakes and that truck pulled the steering wheel out of the drivers hand and left the road way! I've had several blowouts in 30 years and I've NEVER gone out of the lane I was in even in a curve. I actually saw a Swift driver on old 7 in Ar in the mountain on a downhill grade in a curve stopped nicely in the lane! I stopped to see if he was ok. He was but pretty scared! BUT he had seen the movie and did as he learned! Just hold that wheel! I'd be inclined to just drive it and then let them pay the road service fees and stick them with the high priced tire! Get backs are a Bi**h! And I'd hope it blew out dead center of the only 2 tire shops in the area! There is such a thing as TO CHEAP!

| Thing is, you get put OOS, it also goes on your new DOT score, just as it will the company. You are now being judged just the same as if you are a company, and too many points will get you put out to pasture. It's all coming next year if things go as planned, and what happens now counts toward that rating. Call safety, and go over their heads if you have to. Post how the tire looks if you can so we can see how bad it is. |

| Hey Rollover, thx for the tip on how to react if I blow that steer tire! In all my years driving, I've never heard how to handle that! I've blown 1 in a 4-wheeler and managed to control it (scared the snot out of me!) Now I know! As to getting the company to fix it, HOW IN THE HELL CAN i get them to understand??? Sounds like I'm damned if I do and damned if I dont! You are probably right, if I go the scale and get put OOS, they will probably find some Bravo Sierra reason to fire me. But if something bad happens as a result of running on it, I'll get fired for that too! Aint trucking great???

| Another thing on the blowout, if you have something besides the Freightliner self returning hand valve, you can brake with the hand valve, and even give a little throttle to keep the load off the front tires. This was used a lot when cabovers without power steering ruled the world. With todays trucks this may not be necessary, but could help in certain situations. |
