that's so adorable that a truck driver thinks he's a "business man." and a garbage man thinks he's actually a "sanitation engineer." Ha!!!

I am a business man, and if I was just a truck driver I would be broke. Instead I enjoy life, with the money I make from my business.

Might be why you are a X- 1 year driver on your profile...

why? because I didn't fool myself into thinking I was a business owner? or because my last company went from 175 trucks to 25?

One year driving...And then you quit? OK. No problem...But you hardly qualify as an authority on any aspect of the business.

You didn't fool yourself into thinking you were a business owner?
Because you weren't. I am a business owner because I own a small trucking business...You see, That's how it works!
When you own the truck, trailer, customer base and all of the other rewards and headaches that go with it then you are a business owner.

I'm not a lease operator like so many others that think they are O/O's. I went out and bought a truck and trailers and all of the related equipment and necessities for the business after getting comittments from a couple of accounts that keep me as busy as I need to be in order to make what I want to make each month. It has worked out great!

It's turned into a fine little business!

huh??? I drove for 3 years and was laid off. I actually miss it and am ready to go back as soon as our economy crawls back out of the toilet.

business owner: owns real property, a building, trucks, trailers, has office staff, mechanics, sits behind a desk in his own office with his name on the door

truck driver: sits in a seat that bounces up and down, holds a steering wheel, picks up and delivers loads

nothing wrong with either one. you own your truck, trailer and have your own customers instead of leasing your truck to another company. but if you also drive that truck, that makes you an owner/operator. again, nothing wrong with that.

Well; there is 2 kinds of driver. A steering wheel holder or a business man. Even as a company driver you have to make smart business decisions if you want to last very long. Especially now.

"there is 2 kinds" ha! you mean literate and illiterate?

actually, there ARE 2 kinds - people who work, and people who post messages on the internet every 5 seconds! when do you people work? when I drove, I was hard at it from can see until can't see. and I didn't/couldn't get on the internet - hell I didn't even have a cell phone.

but OK, I'll bite. what kind of "business decisions" does a company driver have to make?
