Arizona DPS Mobile Photo Radar

I was running across I-10 East between Vicksburg and Phoenix this morning and got my photo taken by one of the DPS mobile photo units. Problem is, I was not speeding. The Speed limit was 75 and I was running 70 with cruise. No construction, reduced speed limit, downhill grades, or anything else to contribute to this. Just nice, flat road. I even checked my speed when I noticed the warning signs and didn't think twice until the flash went off in my face.

Anybody else ever have this happen? I used to be certified to run radar, so I know there can be interference and a variety of other things can go wrong to give a false reading. Just wondering now if I am going to have to convince the company I wasn't actually speeding. Shouldn't be that hard since I would have had to be going 86 to trip the camera and I can't do that short of my truck running away down a mountain.

Anyway, I can accept getting caught if I was actually speeding but this is dumb. Guess we'll see in a few weeks if safety calls me. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Could be an automatic photo taking.

I have crossed many that have flashed and I know I am legal or under the speed limit. I have never received a ticket.

Is it possible somebody going the other way was zooming? I have had the read out type detectors showing a high speed as I came into a construction zone, but it was tracking the outgoing traffic, but facing me.

Don't know what it could have been. Didn't flash at the two truck about 1/2 mile in front of me or at the one coming up behind me. Just me. Oh well, I know I was legal... now we wait and see. I'm not even worried about the ticket. It's no points and the only thing they can do for not paying is prevent you from registering a car in AZ, no problem there. I just don't want to have to deal with the company's ####.

It sucks. I know when I ran radar I was required to have a visual estimate of speed before even clocking the vehicle and the estimate had to be written on the citation. My best friends a deputy and he has to do the same. Just don't see how these can stand up in court.

it could be pointing at an other car. what they will do is find out who you are driving for and then send the ticket and the pics of you driving. if the pics are not clear or your face can't be seen. most of the time they will do nothing.

In Mississippi they ruled that they can hold up because it's a civil fee (it's not technically a fine), and even though you can appeal them, it's civil and not criminal. Also, in Mississippi, if you don't pay, the worst they can do is ding your credit report. You see, the state/county/city isn't issuing the ticket. A corporation is.

Its not biggie it will have the time/date. You have a QC? They can see what speed you were going at the time.

You win.

Also you being a big truck may be what triggered it, corruption toward trucks. Perhaps truckign cos are more likely to just pay it or something? So they photo all trucks and send the fines out see who pays?

Or as I recall physics and all, doesn't a big truck wind factor make it seem to be going sig. faster then it is on some crappy radar?

I live in Az. and everyone is crying that their rights are being violated by these photo radar units. But since technology isn't perfect, I always cover my face when I pass one, so I can't be Id'd. I'm not speeding, but don't want the hassle of having to defend myself in case of error. My baseball hat works perfectly, off my head and over my face for a few seconds and then on to the bar!

They clocked a junkyard at 30mph once, I wouldn't worry about it.

If the a-rabs can get away with just eye balls showing thats all I would have showing when going past a mobile unit.
