I am a right lane slow poke. Over 700 miles it takes about 10hrs and 45 min at 65. At 70 it takes about 10hrs. With my truck 5mph over that far means about 18 gallons of fuel used at 70 vs 65. At 2.70ish a gallon its not to bad for the extra 45 min. At 4.50 per gallon it gets crazy. It takes some getting use to, but the truck and myself seen a little less stressed at the end of the day. When the price of fuel goes up this might be some thing to remember.

That extra 18 gallons of fuel(126 gallons) will mean an extra fillup that week. The 45 minutes saved (5.25hrs or 367 miles) per day could determine whether or not you picked up an extra load or sit for the weekend.
Time is more important than money. Manage it well. -
70 mph = 6.5 mpg
65 mph = 6.2 mpg
Same engine...my truck -
Good Job Varithms, it worked and continues to work for us....

While I do agree that running slower will net you more miles per gallon, on the majority of engines.
I have to come back to this...because something hit me as not being 100%.
You're saying that your truck losses about1.1 mile per gallon for a 5 mph increase ??????
Something is not right with this set up. And personally, I don't think it's the 5 mph causing that drastic a loss in fuel economy. I've never had that drastic of a drop in fuel consumption, unless I was constantly pulling hard mountain grades, running into a severe head winds, piss poor gearing, or running an engine that needed the overhead run. -
TripleSix, the extra speed might call for a extra fuel stop, fueling takes me 30-45min if there is no line.
Just some ideas for the new guys.dancnoone Thanks this. -
Do the math for miles! Figure or guess how many miles in a year you will or want to run, divide by the number of miles per hour you want to cruise at. Yes I know this isn't real accurate for traffic etc., but a difference of 5 miles per hour over 120,000 miles a year is around 150 hours, or better than 2 weeks!

Fueling rarely takes me more than 15/20 minutes...Tops! Unless there a long line.
What takes you so long? -

Oh......So it was him parked at the fuel island this morning at the Flyin' J in Lodi, Ca. while everyone was waiting to fuel!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm????
