How does fedex freight hiring go is it a long process or do i need to pester them to get on. They are hiring where i live, is it a good job do I get all my hours starting out with them. Do i work dock and not drive as a newcomer to them.I am fine with any work they have as long as it pays well. I just want to be sure they dont hire me as a driver and stick me on a dock for fourty hours a week, that just wont work for me. I see these guys everynight and cant get one to talk. Thats probaly a sign of a good job.ha ha not wanting to tell me about it. WHAT IS THE EXPECTED YEARLY for a guy starting out, i dont turn nothing down and am not scared to burn up my 70.JUST LOOKING for consistent work were my job is up and down.thanks

Dude, you are right. Twicepipes may have gotten a fat ride and a fat cow when he retired, but its different now. FedEx drivers are constantly breaking speed limits, passing like bats out of hell and I would say out of the 200 trucks a month I see them operating 180 are rude, cut offs and have no courtesy. I applaud the leftover component for their safety and courtesy, but they are just rude prigs who think they are some elite corp of drivers. Just because you have a better pay plan and a retirement does not mean you are better. UPS guys are courteous at least when they blow by you and UPS guys have done heavy braking to accomodate me to avoid accidents. The Fedex guys could give a rat's duff about your safety. They drive like idiots in their own yards!!! As long as the flashers are on I guess its okay to be a speed freak.

If it's a big center, you WILL work the dock. If it's a hub, you'll probably be on a 4pm dock start time. Forget about 70hrs, the whole point to having so many drivers working the dock is to cut overtime. They may call you to dispatch at 6pm to run a couple switch outs so the other guys don't get OT, then throw you back on the dock or simply send you home after. It can be a real struggle to make it there starting out money wise.

DOT Safety records say otherwise - 2.1% of accidents are due to unsafe driving. You want unsafe, check out CR England, et al.

If what you really want to do is fly then you need to stay away from truck driving and concentrate on getting a job flying airplanes. Just because you used to drive for fedex doesn't make you more likely to fly for fedex. It's Apples and Oranges. A Fedex pilot position is one of the most sought after flying job out there. You will be competing against the best pilots in the world. (ex airlines, ex military types) A 4 year college degree, 1500 hours pilot in command of a turbine powered aircraft. Type rating is a plus. Then maybe they'll talk to you. Maybe. Good luck.
