I have a job offer to work for a contractor out of the FedEx Ground terminal in Rialto, CA. Running teams and pulling doubles. Sounds like an all right job. I posted this in another area and got some feed back but was just wondering if I might get more in the FedEx area. He does a W2 and has a $300 sign on bonus. Starts at 40 cpm, home pretty much every week, no benefits but I have them through the wife. I can just do my own retirement. Any thoughts?

Fedex ground is all contractors from my understanding. I was just considering hiring a team driver to put on my truck also. you may benefit more from doing a 1099 position and handle your own tax reporting that way you can put aside that 20% to 30% in your own account and build interest all year for yourself rather than giving to the IRS to build interest all year on it. plus as a contractor yourself you can write off $43 for perdiem every day you are on the road. Plus anything you buy on the road ,keep the receipt and write if off. as a contract position you can widdle the income taxes you have to pay down to under 10% with good bookeeping. As a employee you will be stuck up above 20% or more regardless.

Well I do have an offer from a contractor that does UPSF and they do a 1099 and pay 50 cpm for teams. Maybe that is the better way to go? I was an owner operator in 1999 and did one then. Well I had my accountant do it. It sure helped at the end of the year. I believe I was having to do something every 3 months or so with taxes. The guy at FedEx said they are making them do W2 now.
