They're only considering legislating it because so many banks have been abusing it.

Many times Legislation is done to buy votes
Remember the government thinks we are stupid and cant live with out their guidance and law after law after law
Then once they make a law for every thing they wont need our vote
Then its socialism

Much safer than carrying cash, plus I don't worry about "misplacing" that receipt between purchase and tax-time.
Roadkill I think I got that mixed up with a credit card. I can see your point with a debit card cause it's actually coming out of your bank account. But the people that use a credit card for such small purposes? Why pay such high interest on a pack of gum?

We pay a percentage fee for every credit card used in our store
We pay a flat rate of .80 for every debit card used
Hoping if Roadkill comes shopping he buys something big LOL

Had a small, local bank, that would do the debt before the deposts.

After figuring that out, I stopped using them.

Banks are in the business of making money on "your" money...
However......quite a number of banks are practicing "usury".....and other ethically challenged business practices...
Especially B of A........

We paid off our card and they in turn returned the favor by dropping our credit line from $50K to $5K.......

They lost our business to Chase who happens to be more friendly to small businesses.....

When will these banks realize that the majority of businesses/employers in America are small businesses?...

Firstly using your card to buy something that cheap is hurting the STORE as it cost them 3% of sale give or take PLUS a flat rate for the swipe. My merchant account is 3% of sale total & .30 cp swipe

That said, BOA has purposely held charges, to cause overdraft. Say what you will but it seems they hold the small charges for up to 2 weeks until they can hit you with OD.

I went into a Flying J, after checking card for $ and bought a drink and some chips, around 3.00 of stuff, on debit. We went in later at the same flying J and got something to eat, around 26.00.

The 26.00 charge posted that day, the 3.00 charge was held 7 days, until we were at a low balance and then they hit us with it, and a 35.00 fee. I sat and watched them do it again about a month ago, we made a bunch of purchases with the card, all but 4 of the lowest purchases posted same day, yet the 4 lowest purchases, totalling 24.00 were held and ALL OF THEM posted on the day we paid our mortgage, overdrafting us. They hit us for 35.00 each one, yet these purchases were made 2 weeks before. And the funny thing of it is that when you make the purchase, and its pending, the 'amount available' is taking into consideration most pending charges but not those ones.

Hence why we no longer send our money to BOA.
