Good point but a lot(not all) don't pay them off every month and hence they'll be the first ones down the road screaming for credit card relief. And those people I don't feel one bit sorry for.

That honestly takes too much time, and frankly I could see it being confusing and easily screwed up. Especially with my NJ School Taught math skills...

Frankly it should not be allowed for a bank to not subtract 'certain' charges, but the language to allow them to do that is in tiny print on the site. Netspend has no such print, they update their computerized audit system real time, which is part of the reason I PAID 22.00 A MONTH for my checkings and SAVINGS account with BOA so they would do that too. Now I pay 9.95 to netspend to do it, and they do it right.

I would NEVER do it by pen and paper, I have considered buying a budgeting software, or getting quickbooks but after my trial of quicken and quickbooks I dont really like either of them.

I pay $9/month for BofA but only for the use of their link into my Quicken software. If I didn't do that it would be free. I have a checking, savings and a credit account through them and the $9 is the only fee. What type of account did you have that cost $22?

My bank account does that. Charges don't all go in immediately but they at least show up as (pending). Now they keep offering to buy me $2k in life insurance on their dime. I like my bank.

Yes they usually within 5 mins it shows on my transaction list, the balance is changed, and I get a text message of both the total charge and new remaining balance. New charges generally are 'pending' but show up right away, the longest I've had it take is 30 mins. Usually its so quick I get the message money has been spent prior to my hubby getting back to the truck with the acquired goods.

Posting as msmspilot's wife... I don't generally get on any forums, but as my husband has talked about this particular subject with me, I have become increasingly more infuriated and couldn't resist.

This one is SIMPLE. You have a paycheck, and you deposit it (or you have it automatically deposited via your employer = ADD money to your account. You spend money = SUBTRACT money from your account.

This is at most 3rd grade level math here; simple addition and subtraction. If you can't do that, you shouldn't have graduated high school, much less left your elementary school's campus. You're just being a two-year-old throwing a temper tantrum and not wanting to take responsibility for YOUR MONEY. If you want to reconcile that you don't want to take responsibility for YOUR MONEY and willingly hand over the responsibility of simple addition and subtraction to a bank, then more power to the bank for profiting off of your LAZINESS.

Really people, we're not talking about amatorizing compound interest on a daily basis or betting on day-trade stocks, it's SIMPLE ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION. Don't spend more than you put in. And if you do, realize that somebody else paid the difference and you owe them whatever you agreed to pay in the contract you signed (but likely didn't read because that's too damn inconvenient, too) when you opened your account.

If you want to keep your money, GROW UP. If you want the bank to coddle you and hold your hand while you suck the thumb of the other, then you'll have to pay for the convenience, as shown by the purchase of the third-party service that holds your baby bottle for you.

Back to the real msmspilot

That's awesome. I honestly didn't know anyone did that. Just more reasons to tell the mega banks where to stick it.

Guess you missed my post where I explained that when you deposit your paycheck they hold on to it on purpose until there are charges against your account so they can drive your account into the hole and hit you with charges. Then they deposit what's left of your check. If you're running a ledger, you won't even see it until you balance it again.
