I'm an owner...and soon to be operator, getting ready to go over the road flattbedding.

I'm currently shopping for a flatbed, and came down to the conclusion that I need a 48 x 102 steel/alum spread. I've came across a SMOKING deal on a flatbed, but it's a 45 steel/alum spread.... The price is at a point that it can be used just as a starter trailer, and work into a 48', if the need arises.

Can loads be found that can be hauled with a 45' or is 48' the minimum.

    Thanks

thats probably why it is a smoking deal they cant give it away because it's a 45.

    Yeah, that crossed my mind.

But, as an owner with absolutely NO debt right now, and wanting to keep it that way.. is it possible to get it done, even with more load searching, with a 45'?

i've hauled alot of loads on a 48 that only took up about 40 ft. it just depends on the shipper. really shouldn't be to much trouble. heck you go and buy a 48 then they will want a 53.

It could be done but will cut you out of a very high percentage of loads. You'll be looking to give that trailer away too in a matter of time.

45 would work fine for steel& shingles wood be ok for lumber also. Would not be good for plastic pipe or insulation and stuff like that. It would also be fine for brick and block and bag cement

My most pain in the butt days were trying to flatbed on a 45'. 53' has too much ### hangin off the back for my liking. 48' fits the bill.

You are going to be hauling a lot of heavy things that others dont want to do because they are cheap and heavy on that 45. Go ahead and buy it, when you are ready to give it away, I will gladly take it off your hands and scrap it, LOL

Don't feel bad, I recently bought a 48x96 instead of a 48x102 because it was nearly half the price. It's kind of a pain at times for what I do with it, but it's a good trailer for what I need it for.

I think you'd be able to find a 48x96 for near the price of your 45'....the price spread is the result of the width.
