I was in Casa Grande, Arizona last night and was parked at a truck stop for the night. There was an open space between me and another rig. I had locking fuel caps on my freightliner. During my pre trip i noticed the fuel cap part way on. The stops were broken- they must have used a very large pipe wrench to snap them off. My best guess is that they got about 60 gallons of fuel. What a bummer. So tonight i checked out anti-siphon screens for my tanks on the internet. I guess i will order them asap. Anyone else have fuel stolen?

Just make sure if you do catch someone stealing fuel, make sure and report them to IFTA, they cna get nailed for tax evasion too. Plus they'll get a nice audit and will pretty much have several state agencies up their butt for the next 5 years or so......

Did you fuel before you parked?

Thanks for the advice, I did not even think about IFTA. I just felt that it had to be some one pretty desperate. One of the other drivers near by was convinced that it was someone that was on drugs and couldnt work hard enough to pay his own way- so he had to steal fuel.

No, I fueled when I left Kingman, Az with a load of 52' Plastic pipe that was going south of Tucson. To a copper mine. Then I headed back up toward Phoenix for my next load today and thought Casa Grande was a good spot. since the truck stops in phoenix get full quickly. I feel lucky at least the tanks were not full

I've never had fuel stolen, but a caught a guy trying one night. I had stopped at the TA in Meridian, MS and went in to take a shower. When I came out I saw a van parked next to my truck and when I walked around the guy had a hose in his had and was standing next to my tanks. I hollered at him and told him to get the F away from my truck and that I was calling the police. He took off in a hurry. Come to find out a few weeks later as I went thru there he was shot dead by a local junkyard owner while he was stealing fuel out of his tow truck in his driveway. Karma is a ##### !!!

My truck was built with anti-siphon screens, in the filler necks. I have noticed my caps being loose on a rare occassion, but never any fuel missing. Guess the thieves see the screens and the fuel level below them, so move on. I have seen plenty of broken locking caps, over the years. Most are not that hard to get past. My advice is get some kind of device to go inside the neck and do not fuel before parking.
