i'd like to chime in and say that small companies aren't out of the loop with menlo. i load for them all the time and i'm as small as they come in size. it's all in who u know and the big companies dabble in military freight, but normally don't stay interested. the menlo pays within 48hrs of p.o.d. if u work on the east coast there is always freight there and california.

I think he meant Humvees.
As many have said the freight goes to the lowest broker bid. However the broker has only a short period of time to cover the loads. If they don't they go down the list until the rate increases to a point where someone is willing to haul it. The key is some is willing to haul it.
For example a few weeks ago I watched an RGN load from Cape Canaveral FL to Twentynine Palms CA be first offered at $6200. A week later on Friday afternoon I booked it for $8400. This happens all the time. Moral of the story - stop hauling cheap freight and the rates will go up.

I just love to get on the CB and holler at flatbedders hauling armored vehicles and ask them if they have a TANK endorsement!
