I have never ran flatbed, but if I was driving in my car I would wonder why the last skid did not have a chain going thru it also.

What are the chains rated for in relationship to the weight of each counterweight? In a stopping situation the dead weight multiplies going forward.

Strapping accross the top - I would think,, what if those skid shifted, then those straps would slide off?

I would try to run a strap from the side rails thru the weights instead of accross the top.

My personal thought only... I am one for overstrapping on any of my personal trailers.

I'da put my chain like this

You don't want to use chains to fence in an object. You need to have it pull down to provide friction against the deck to prevent fwd motion. And rubber mats underneath each rack. Steel on aluminum is not very grabby.

On the back chain would it not hold a "shift" better if he came over the side beam and out the back hole, accross and then back out and over the far beam?

Because they are secured to the racks with 3 metal bands, your securement looks good, to me. I see the banding has padding, telling me they don't want these all scratched up, so no chains directly on them. You are securing the counterweight and rack together, as they are unitized with the steel bands.

Thanks guys. I'm going to redo the front and rear chains it will hold the load back and tension it down a bit.

I completely forgot to tarp these weights and it started raining 10 minutes after I left the shipper :biggrin_25510:

I'll wait until dry pavement then wipe it all down and tarp it. I never think to tarp forklift parts :biggrin_25526:

I went from Philly to Rochester with a tarped 12k used forklift. I guess they thought it might rust or something.

They want them tarped? I've hauled new counterweights to a Cat plant and they did not need tarps.

Just another easy $100 charge :biggrin_255:

I think I can use one of little tarps for all 3.
