So i find out the hard way i cant have a 53 foot spread axle in florida. they count the back axle as a separate axle and measure for the 41 feet from there. no points on my record and not on the company record, but a 100 dollar fine and another if i dont get back out in 24 hours. obviously they dont see it as a safety thing, just purely its a fund raiser. so annoying

Thats Florida for you.

News to me! I have been there about a dozen times with a 53 flat. Clear to Miami once and never had any trouble at the POE.

I also learned the hard way from Florida.
Got an overlenght ticket with an oversize permit.
Florida limits overall lenght to 75' with any trailers longer than 48'. I had an overlenght permit going in but didn't know I needed one for coming out empty.
That lesson cost me $400
Since then I run a 48' spread and try to stay out of Florida unless it pays really good. -
Sometimes they enforce it and sometimes they don't....
aiwiron Thanks this. -
You have a 53 with the axles all the way back?
I see most have them like a 48 and then just have 5 feet of trailer hanging back'ards of the rear axle. -
And me.....
-
Must have had something that attracted attention bedsides the trailer, that is a federal bridge law any state can burn you on. If you were off the interstate they would not even bothered you.

The only time they bothered me with it was when they caught me going around the lee scales, he ran me across the portables and my weight was ok so he couldn't get me on anything else... I guess he felt he needed to give me something since he drug the portables out for nothing..
aiwiron Thanks this.
