I came out of the Loves the other day after a nice hot shower. Going back to my truck with my Mickey D's bag. Power walking because of the cold. Parked next to me was a flat bed. With a beautiful tarp job. I wanted to hurry up and finish my food so I could jump in the bunk. So I didn't have to see what a hard working man looked like. Well didn't work. I figured it would be some muscle bound young guy. Nope, It was a older man probably in his early 50's Or even older. I just wanted to thank all you flat bed drivers out there. Tarping, carrying over size loads, out there in the elements of mother nature. Doing what you do. Just in case nobody has told you how much you are appreciated. I'm doing it now. May God bless you, and keep you safe out there. Flatbedders the hardest working truckers on the road in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

I second that.I did flat bed for a short 3 months with SMX.I hated it.Deffinately takes a special person to do such hard work.In my opinion, they don't receive enough for tarping and should get pay for untarping.

I love and enjoy doing my flatbed loads. Not to mention it gives you a "cardio" workout. :naka:

Funny u say that, I was just at the Petro in York, NE and a flatbed driver came out of the fuel building with a scale ticket in hand. He was a bit hefty, but apparently thought he didn't need a belt. Well, while he climbed up onto his trailer, his pants dropped to his ankles. I had to go give him a hard time. Turns out he just started running flatbed 2 months ago. He pulled a van his entire 22yr career and had already lost 15 pounds. He said he was heading straight to the store to buy new jeans when he got home.

I do flat bed, but we don't do any tarping:biggrin_25525:. But then again, if it snows we don't work, or if it's muddy we don't work, so I'm practicing for retirement...life is good. Six months to go.

SMX was a good company. There was a huge difference between a driver that was hired by SMX when compared to one hired by Western.

You got that right, when I first started driving they were on my list of carriers to apply at, they had very strict standards to get on there.
