hey everyone i got a question for y'all more like a couple. a little back story is my company has a '95 pete 378 short nose coming up for grabs (no i dont want to buy it) it's got a true cat 550 mechanical under the hood also 18spd and of course still has all her nuts. now normally i would never consider anything with less than a long hood truck but this one is different i believe it has a 127" ICT bunk on it. microwave, big flatscreen, shower, sink whole 9 yards minus toilet. i'm thinking about moving out of my truck pictured below and getting in this one. i on average stay out 4 weeks at a time even though all i do is maine to texas and texas back LTL'ing both ways on a 53' step non cali spread. milage is roughly same with a little over 1 million. she has had a rougher life though so i would deffinatly have my work cut out for me when it comes to polishin and chroming out but i do enjoy that. so now on to my questions
1. what kinda weight difference am i looking versus my 63" standard bunk? last driver that had it pulled a tri axle RGN
2. can a long nose hood from a 379 be put on the 378? (wondering if i can swap out hoods)
3. where can i dump the gray water tank?
4. how much of a pita are we talking when it comes to maneuvering around truck stops pullin' the 53' ft step
5. if u were flatbedding LTL pulling a 53' would u drive this truck givin the opportunity on a daily basis
i really like the truck the only thing that gets me is the short nose if i know the hoods are swappable i would probally move right in lol
i will also take a few pics of it tommrow as i am at the shop and post it up versus mine now
not sure where to ask this need opinions from everyone

If your not staying on the west side of the dirt then I wouldn't bother to be honest. A 53' step and longer wheelbase truck being it a pete (turning radius sucks) your asking for more trouble than its really worth dealing with. If I'm not mistaking, the cab and sleeper would have to be set on a slightly longer frame to compensate for the longer hood and in the end would cost more money and time to do than it would be worth unless you have the time and money to burn plus intend on a fresh inframe all at the same time. A bigger TV really won't make any difference plus the added weight that would put a bit of a damper on your overall load capacity.

dump that gray water tank along a back road or a dirt lot somewhere, it's not like its black water...just do it at night time.
the hoods aren't swappable but what does that have to do with anything, its for sure a larger truck than the short one you have now...whats the wheel base on that big house truck? -
Got a buddy that used to have a T800 cleaned up and chromed out nice, traded it in for a W900, just as nice but doesn't get as much attention. Too many nice W9s and 379s out there, they don't really stand out, a clean 378 or T800 will look better by comparison

You either want a hood or a house .... With a 53' spread step I don't really think it is pratical to have both ... Not saying it can't be done but I would imagine you would need a football field to manuever
I agree with Cluck...unless you are dedicated freight I would make myself as versitle as possible...and do my best to keep my weight down -
Do you know what the weight difference is between the trucks?

I guess your original post says you don't know the weight difference, my bad. Also says you don't want to buy it, so I'm confused.

cetanediesel Thanks this.

Okay, that makes sense. If you try it and can't make it work, what are your chances of swapping to another truck?
