I've been hauling pipe and building materials up to Minot and Williston non stop this summer then dead heading out 600 to 1,000 miles back for another one. The rates just keep going up and up. Big push right now. There's a ton of us doing the same thing. It's funny heading back out. About 150 miles and stopping for the day at a small truck stop and it's full of empty flatbeds. I'm on a 1,200 mile run now for $4,600
The few times I called about a load heading out they were offering around $1.00 to $1.20. I told them I was going to dead head out instead. The brokers were freaking out I wouldn't take their load.
I'm wondering if this will go on during the winter.
Anyone else doing the Williston and Minot ND runs

Since June done 2 rig moves to Williston....and 3 loads of pipe. It's off my normal beat but the money was solid.
I bounce out.......caught a couple of good oversize from IA going to TX....it was a nice change. -
That's what I've been doing. Heading back to IA. It's not a bad ride up and back and pretty flat ground.
-
I've hauled a few oversize loads up there. Get a partial load out paying $1.20 a mile. A load of seed paid 2 per mile other times just ran empty. Not much comes out, hard to load oil on a stepdeck.

The frost was really bad this spring, so everything is behind schedule. No doubt this is the same effect as Alberta. You're a sucker if you go up there for less than $3.50 a mile. Also American trucks tend to deadhead out of Alberta, so that further drives the freight rates just across the border down, which in turn drives the inbound up.

We are currently working on a 180 load job up that way.
SMTatham Thanks this. -
I have hauled numerous loads to the Dakota prairie project in Dickinson. Seems like they will be building that pipeline for years to come.

What's funny is now guys like you are jumping on these loads three years ago I was getting $6,800 going up and hay was going back to Texas paying $2,500-$3,000. I won't go back for anything less than $6,000 but all I get is offers of $3,300 I did go back in March went across the state to do a load of bird seed that needed tarped going to WV was the biggest pain in the rear and I'll never do one again paid $1.78/mi and sounded better than $1.25/mi drill mud
