Anyone know how long and wide of a strap I need to do an X strap on the ends of flatbed loads? Especially the high loads.. Looks like it need to be a pretty long strap.

Regular standard 2 inch straps will work but you can also just use the 4 inches and use the....wutchamacallits

regular 27 or 30ft strap is plenty .width of strap really not an issue

I've used 4"/30ft straps with no problems.

If you get the flat hook straps, you can hook them together and wrap a layer of Duct tape around the joint. Had to do that plenty of times when tarping an OD load. Ratchet on either end also provides more even pressure vs pulling on just one end.

Well having hauled foam for years: you slamming on the brakes with it is a decision you make-it tends to walk off the back without a chase strap (2' off the bottom around the back) or a single angled strap (catching both top units a little bit, this way is better). The center and front units I've never had move as I put a half twist and I tighten Til each strap is tight. They cut a ton. Of those slabs on the roof anyway, never had a claim nor heard of one for strap crush damage as long as you limit it to the top sheet of each unit.

Slamming on the brakes is a "decision you make"?
Like last week crossing into Illinois on 80, come up to the bridge, nada. Going up the slight incline, nada. get to the top and find traffic at a dead stop, yep. Yeah, I made the "decision" to slam on my brakes vs rearending the idiots that had all stopped for some reason. Nothing on the CB, no warning at all.
I guess I am picky as I make 110% sure nothing can slide forward on my trailer, regardless of hard braking. I know hauling 50-70,000 lb machines may be different than insulation boards, lumber, loose pipe, etc, but the principal is still the same. Last thing I need is to add to the cluster....
