I'm curious to see if anybody here is running flatbed with an Evolution.

Mid to late November I'll be getting one with a 230" WB and I got concerned yesterday when I got the opportunity to see one with same specs. from up close. Turns out there is not really that much space between the cab and the fifth wheel, which could be an advantage for Reefers and dry vans, but on a flat bed, needing to have a Headache Rack, I'm not sure exactly how it's gonna play out. The thing also has an upright pipe. Any idea if removing this pipe like some of them come from the factory would impact the factory warranty?

Any contribution on this two issues would be highly appreciated!

    P.S.

The second issue would be if there's enough room for a Headache Rack!

We run evolutions pulling flat beds where I work. They are really tight between the front of the trailer and sleeper. Im not sure you have enough space for a headache rack with a normal depth king pin. We don't run headache racks so I'm not sure.

Some come with the exhaust under the cat walk from factory.

At least half the flatbed fleet at prime is made up of evolutions, both mid roof & more commonly the full condo with wings. They have a big headache rack with cabinets that is about 2ft back from the cab. Tight but the side fairing extenders will give you more problems then the rack especially if you only get one to hang chains on & not the thick cabinet type.

If you can, get extra track put on for the 5th wheel to slide farther back

defenitly on the extended track. a wide load on the front of the trailer would limit your turning radius. specially if it overhangs on the front.

So these only come in one wheelbase then?
The obvious solution is to extend the wheelbase by what is needed, or put a shallow kingpin on the trailer.

Are there any side effects to the title if you cut the frame?

    Huh?
Cut the frame on what? The truck?
Why not just order the thing to work for you instead of against you?

Why not, it gets done all the time...

I'm not ordering, I'm buying off the shelf... I wish I was ordering though!

Out of the few ones I have access to, this Evo seems to have the lesser cons. Honestly the 230" WB is the only one I can think of. That's why I started this thread. To gauge exactly how big an issue it would be. I have to say, there's always that one customer that makes me wish I had a shorter truck and my current truck is only a 236.

I wouldn't buy a truck that I knew needed stretching right off the bat, unless it was very cheap.
And no, the title won't be effected.
