Run in with the union

LOL, like 4 years ago I got yelled at from an Iron worker here in Chicago when they were unloading my trailer. The boom from the crane was coming down and he didn't grab it and it was swinging at my head so I grabbed it and handed it to him. He told me not to F'in touch the crane and I laughed and said we don't need to do this cause you'll loose.... This was in Chicago, Local 1 Iron workers, My uncle was one of there business reps at the time and I have a bunch of family in that union also. Needless to say, I never dropped a name I just told him next time I will let it crush my face and I will make my moneys worth on suing your company and your union...

In your case, if those are your 4x4's, I would have told them nobody is going to touch it but me since I am responsible for it and its is owned by a non union company who employs a non union driver... They get so carried away about that crap! This is one of the reasons I just left my easy street union ready mix job in Chicago to go back OTR. Union politics played a large roll in my choice to do so.

 

Yes , I was in a union at Lockheed Ga years ago .
The have a guy for every task.

If you do another guys job and get caught they will file a grievance
and collect some money as a sort of penalty.

If you even touched your work before the buzzer rang you'd get in
hot water

 

Wonder if they would pull your tarps and put them away?

 

Next time ask him who he is, ask him for proof and then ask him to have a union rep come out and explain the rules to you. I had this happen to me a few times by teamsters and every time I told them to prove to me who they are and what union that they represented, then told them to call someone out from the local to explain it to me who represents the union otherwise stay off the truck. They gave up each time.

 

We deal with this in the carhaul world, too. You'll pull into a plant to load and the union boys will throw down their bars and stomp away. Shortly thereafter, the supervisor will show up and ask you to move outside the gate and they'll bring you your cars to you. It's like watching 3 year olds have a temper tantrum.

 

Someone can take the wood off of my trailer and put it away but they better be there and do it when and how I want it done. I am not going to take a job from someone but they better have their ##### in gear or I will do it myself.

 

That is a good comparison.

 

The biggest union jerks I've ever dealt with was at the A&P grocery warehouse in Edison, New Jersey. It was like looking at the Keystone Cops in slow motion.

Once while delivering a big roof air conditioner in NYC, had a run in with unions. Some clown driving an old model Cadillac and wearing an old ragged suit and tie drove up to the crane and demanded to see the crane operators union card and my union card. He said "This job is shut down until a union crane operator and truck driver are here." He demanded $100.00 from me for a permit. I told him " I'll call the company and see what they want." Of course I didn't call because it was like watching some low budget B-movie. Then the guy saw some people working on the median putting mulch around plants and trees. He drove his Cadillac over there and started loading bags of mulch into the truck and none of the workers gave him a second look. While he was stealing mulch, we unloaded the air conditioner and I left.

The worst places are union steel mills. Those places are a flatbedders worst nightmare.

 

I cannot understand why anyone would be associated with a union. I have my own stories, but those already posted are similar to some of my experiences. Unions are inherently corrupt.
