Hello. I was wondering what kind of work, opportunities and such exist for a Flatbed owner operator living in and wanting to work in these areas? Sorry if that's a bit vague, I'm looking into maybe becoming a OO and would like to do Flatbed work, preferably some where in those areas give or take. Thank you for any help.
Flatbed work around CA, AZ, NV, NM?

Also, I've heard that Flatbed Drivers can do pretty good just by getting stuff off of load boards. Even with a truck payment, can one do good and stay in the same region just operating off of load boards? Or is it best to lease out to a company? Is there dedicated type work for a flatbed driver? Again, sorry if that seems a bit vague, just trying to get my info and do some research. I've always felt the best research of all is to ask questions.

CA, AZ, NV and NM are real bad areas for flatbed. I don't think you will find any dedicated routes and if you do it will pay even worse.

I don't understand... I see Flatbeds ALL over the place on the I-10 corridor, more than smart-cars in a quaint European village. They're just, everywhere. Surely there is Flatbed work in these 4 states, 4 very large states that have all kinds of things going on in them...

Rates tend to be much better staying in that area than trying to get out of that area. Throw in CO and UT, and you've got a pretty well populated load area to work in if you're willing to stay out two weeks at a time or more working the spot market.
You'll haul lots of rocks and rail/mining scrap/equipment. 16 chains and binders, 18 straps and winches, and 8 4"x4"x96" boards minimum would be wise. Melons and onions have their seasons down there, too, but they're different beasts entirely.OneCosmicGuy Thanks this.
