OP consider the alternative: it's offered to you at $1.85 a mile from a broker (I'm thinking but can happen w direct as well) who has undercut everyone else hauling for a customer to get in and still wants to turn a profit (let's say he gets $2.35 a mile) the shipper is happy to move their garbage at a lower price, and will sit on that load waiting on cheap transportation; the load may move at that low rate or not, at which point the carriers that normally pull that freight get held up...until the load HAS to move and the house carrier moves it at their normal rate (which will be higher than the one the broker shoots for)
