That should be a question you should ask any company before you hire on. You make your deal coming in the door as they say.

Like it or not, tarping is a part of flat bedding. Most companies will compensate for tarping,.. whether in your base salary or broken down on a per job basis. Easiest way to find out is to call a company that you are interested in and ask them what you need to know. You make your deal coming in the door.

I may be wrong but I took the OP as in disbelief that a company doesn't pay for tarping. Not, as part of research looking for a company.

And if I am correct then I would think the companies that don't pay t tarp are the one's who are hauling cheap freight or they don't want a high enough caliber of driver that might insist on tarp pay before they even apply for the job.

We are not hauling cheap and I guess I consider myself a fairly high caliber driver.

If the everyday pay is there you do not need to play the shell game of x amount of dollars to do this and that. That being said there is nothing wrong with getting accessory pay. Problem I see is that a lot of the companies seem to use it to lure guys in when in all reality if they just payed decent up front they wouldn't have to do that.

I could have phrased that differently. You are correct, if the pay is high enough then what is the need for tarp pay? But if they are hauling cheap freight then no tarp pay might be part of the reason. And it may be part of the reason why they are looking for lower caliber drivers. Someone who may have bad csa scores, driving record or felony or something. They are just looking for a warm body to run the truck down the road with a tarped load that they didn't pay to have tarped.

If its requested by the customer / client , I charge for it and my drivers get paid for it along with decent pay.

I used to pull a hopper. I asked if I could get paid for tarping my hopper and If I dint I wouldn't do it any longer. I was fired.
