Hello all. I will be 50 in April. I am in pretty good shape physically ( mentally is another story lol).
Got good results at last physical ( October). Are there drivers out there my age doing flatbed? I have heard of people younger than myself not being able to do it. Interested in the thoughts of the skate boarders out there. Thanks!

We had an old Sicilian guy that flat decked till he was 80! Took the winters off and played snowbird from Christmas till April 1 when our plates renewed. He retired about 6 times. I used to joke that he was in his 6th overtime period.

If you can climb in and out of a truck you can flatbed.

Anyone that says flatbedding is hard work has obviously never done a minute of hard work in their life.

If you look around the truckstops seems to be older men that are flatbedders. Keeps you young.

There really isn't that much physical work to flatbedding except for tarping. That can be a chore sometimes but you could just avoid those loads. I don't tarp a 13' high lumber load anymore. Steel tarps are easy. Chains can be a chore too but easy going makes it not that bad.

I guess if I can get 170 pounds out of bed every morning a tarp should be easy😳

You're right its a chore and depending on conditions it can take a little time.

I did flatbed over sized pre-stressed concrete...
A whole lot of throwing chains. I was sore the first few days from climbing and chaining but it was not that bad.
A little exercise is good anyway!

As long as you can lift 140 pound tarps I guess you'll do fine
