I bought an older last month and spent the last few weeks fixing the stuff that needed fixing. Now she needs a new home. I'm moving back to Houston this month and don't really care where I run as long as it pays. I don't want elogs and I have my own Conestoga. My driving record is clean and I have 23 years under my belt. Thanks in advance.

Landstar use to take older trucks as long as they passed a Landstar inspection..

I had heard thru the grapevine they are now elog for trucks leasing on....I've been out of the "system" as they call it for a couple years now so I'm not up on the all latest..

I would think where you are at you could find a deal pulling hazmat tank pretty easy if you wanted to got that route ??

    good luck

I have no problem pulling a tanker, kinda miss it. Also open to pulling a reefer. Hell I don't care as long as it pays.

I run a lot of Texas from up here in the dreaded northeast.....Based on what I've seen (and this is just my opinion) if it were me I'd hook a hazmat tank and ride with it especially if you are moving to Houston..

We do reefer and van depending on whats moving and what time of the year it is and it can be pretty tough getting a truck moving once empty down there...Produce rates out of the valley are soft unless you are direct or know someone, and van is hit or miss....Seems like Cheap and Heavy Robinson has there hands on a lot of the freight down there that should tell you something !! LOL

FWIW, I don't pull flats at all but I see a good many of them sitting around the Houston area truck stops..

You can check out dcl trucking out of Indy, great place to work, pay good, no issues I have found.

Home for my truck, huh? That sounds like a true driver talkin'. Probably won't like it, but you could check out JCT outta Sapulpa, OK (little west of Tulsa) if you can put up w/ the reefer / OTR grocery gig. They do true O/O's and I seen a lot of older rigs. Lot's of messed up stuff there, but no more than anywhere else and it's all unintentional; like one hand didn't talk to the other and this one thinks your late but the other one knows you ain't. They just didn't tell each other like they shoulda so you get a call questioning something, and they make mess ups right real fast. Work w/ ya real good.

Freight is real steady, especially for a runner. Houston is a real good area for them if hometime is real important to you. It isn't w/ me, but that's just me. Their trailers and reefers are all in real good shape. Pay every Thursday and pay is always straight and the checks don't bounce. People are nice, regular Oklahoma country folks for the most part. Give back to you just like you give to them. Attitude will be met w/ attitude, Respect w/ respect and in differences they are very reasonable and it's like working something out w/ your neighbor.

Funny how you mentioned "home". I guess they are no worse than anyone else and better than most in this Mule Driving Business. That's what struck me w/ them. I got there and it felt like I had finally found a "home".

OTR is OTR. Grocery is Grocery. Reefer is Reefer. Lot of $#!+ different w/ that freight than my OTR flatback freight days. They are right in the right areas and no worse than others in the wrong ones and will actually listen and right an (I believe) unintentional wrong real quick like. E-Logs, but older Qualcomms and . . . more interested in being on time than the log. They'd, obviously, have to deny that if asked; but that's the reality I have experienced. Never got fussed at for running over to be able to deliver on time. Long as I wasn't stupid over.

All in all I'd say that like any home, you got good and bad. You learn to make the best of the good and how to keep the bad to the least. I guess that's what home is about. They made me feel like I finally found my home I could finish my days with. Had that once before but he cheated too badly and DOT shut us down. I don't see that w/ these cats. Good folks that seem to know when to let you "go" and when to say "whoa" so the whole gig stays viable long term in this Brave New World of Trucking. Money ain't the best, but they pay most of what others don't, pay is always on time, straight, in the bank when they say and freight is steady.

    That's just my take.

I've been out here long enough to know no place is perfect, I've been lucky /choosy over the last 20 years. I work hard and do my job. And things have gone pretty good. But since I'm transitioning out of the oilfield and back to the real world any help is good. My truck is paid for, so is my trailer, Suburban, car, house ect. I am looking for a home, not anyplace where I'll be a number. That's the only way I've done it and I don't plan on changing anytime soon.

You might look into Bennett or Lone Star. They have terminals in Houston. Bennett used to have a drill pipe yard at their terminal that they shipped out of for regional, don't know if they still do that though.
