You are OK!

Depends on state, contact each state you'll be traveling through, give them the exact dimension, they will tell you if permits are required
-
It isn't the width of the trailer, but total width. As long as you are no wider than 102" then you should not have a problem, even if your trailer is only 96" wide.

^^^^^^ Correct.

thanks, i come across the s c and ga scales no prob, hanging off trailer 4 inches but was more worried about ms and la scales, heading to houston.
-
worse case scenario, you'll get stopped, measured, and sent on your way.
colorado did that to me.281ric Thanks this. -
Worst case scenario.......the forklift operator won't know the difference between your 8 wide trailer and my 102" and he'll load mine that way.
cnsper Thanks this. -
Be careful on a 96" trailer if what you are hauling is close to the 102" legal width. If its crooked I've had the DOT measure all 4 points of the load and add the 2 biggest numbers from each together and was over 102". Steel plates and crane boom will get you if your not careful.
