Coil .jpg So I pulled into a coil receiver this afternoon, got out of my truck went back to open up the wagon. Come back up to get my paperwork and check in and notice this! I walked up and the coil is just sitting on the trailer as you see it, barely the corner of the coil is touching the lumber it's totally free. The driver spoke no english, had all brand new chains, binders, tarps, and straps. Fresh sleeper corner crunched in and half a missing bumper. No company name, DOT, or IFTA nothing on the truck just blank. I stood in front of his truck to make sure he didn't move it as I could not back up with others behind me. The receiver freaked out about it. I tried to show him what he did wrong but it was like talking to a wall. Really scary that was a 23K coil just loose on the trailer, and on the highway with no support except chains. :biggrin_2552:

I've never run coils so I'll take your word for it. The other stuff though is a real eye opener. These are the clowns that make our jobs more difficult. When he crashes or kills somebody the motoring public and politicians will demand more laws and training for you, me and everyone else in the industry who already know what they're doing. Our jobs become more difficult while jokers like this guy are already on their way out of the industry and the next group of losers is getting ready to cycle through. It's a never ending cycle, but that's the way "they" want it. It keeps wages low, DOT busy, and the megas like Swift and CRE rich.

I forgot to mention in my post he had NO coil racks at all on the truck, when I showed him mine he was clueless. So the coil sat on the trailer as you see it (minus chains) from it's origin to its destination.

He hauled it like that with no coil racks?

Who ever loaded that should be held responsible to make sure it was set correctly.

I'm one of those paranoid guys when it comes to coils. I always over chain and if its wide I'll use 3 racks to hold my dunnage in place.

That driver needs to be schooled in the worst way.

Whoever loaded and shipped that load should be in jail, like right now. The driver does not know any better. The shipper, he or she knows. Scumbag supreme!

Yes, this was taken today in Springfield, Ohio. The receiver, I'm at weekly, held his bills to call the shipper and the trucking company. Yes it was shipped like that, he literally laid two pieces of dunnage on the trailer and no racks, just chains and left. I tried to talk with him and show him, he didn't understand a word I said. I showed him my set up he looked at me said ok and walked off.

I always figure a rack for every 10K of weight the coil weighs. So 40K coil, 4 racks. I was so mad he couldn't speak english, I was trying to help he seemed really annoyed I wanted to call the Motor carrier enforcement of him honestly. It was really weird there was no company name, DOT numbers, IFTA sticker, I mean nothing on the truck just a plate zip tide to the grill. How does a guy like that even get a CDL, it really shows that CDL mills are a problem.

i like how he put two boards along side the coil like they're actually doing something!! if he had set the coil on them and had spit them out it would have settled down and the coil would have been rolling back and forth. good thing he had new chains!! lol one good thing about it if the reciever had been jerking him around he could have literally rolled it off on the ground! been tempted to do that a few times lol

You should have. The guy got lucky THIS time. Next time, somebody could end up dead. DOT would have had a field day...
