I'm new to platform so I have many questions, but one I want to ask is,

how are y'all making your home-made v type boards? The ones that are being used on hazmat drums for instance, or paint buckets...

they look like 2 long 2"x4" attached by old 4" winch straps.

So, my question is, what type of wood are y'all getting, how much $ are u spending to make/on the wood, what sizes/how long are u making them, how long do u EXPECT them to last lol, and how are u attaching them (the two wood pieces)???

i do thank y'all in advance... I'm not trying to dig into your secrets out here, just wanting to be safe as possible , and these "v" boards look like they distribute the weight of the winch straps evenly across drums and etc

And I did buy enough v-boards for 20 straps (2 20 packs) that I'll be using on freight too... JUST would like some of the home made ones for drums and what not

Mine are 1x4x40 Oak, cuz I had extra trim let over form a Honey dew project, the straps were the cheep one from Harbor freight (one of my favorite places).

You can make them out of what ever you have lie about or what ever is cheep at Home Base.

You may use treated 1by4s by 8ft or 4ft.with tar/paper nails long enough to bend over after passing thru the 3 4in junk strap cut about 15in long, 2by 4s can be used but are heavy to haul around

So, the 1"x4" boards won't break with regular tightening?

How much are y'all paying for oak? Are 4x4s neccassary to be in oak, I would prefer the oak, but from what I hear it's not the cheapest $ wood around lol

Get 5/4" oak decking. Ain't cheap. Use 4" winch strap after it's worn cut good pieces out. Use at least 3 pieces for each 2 pieces of lumber. Use fence staples (the galvanized kind you hammer in) to attach the straps. Til you drop one crooked and it breaks on a knot is how long mine usually last.

I have used bungies in a pinch for straps holding the 1x4's or 2x4's together, just pull one of the "S" hooks out and make a loop with the other "S" hook

    baha Thanks this.
