Getting Flatbed experience

    Hey Guys I have a quick question. I am a local owner operater with a 1998 Western Star. I have been pulling fuel tankers locally in Atlanta for over 10 yrs. I am interested in going OTR as a flatbed owner operater . But I need to get one year of flatbed experience before I can lease on to the likes of a landstar or Mercer. If any of you can recormend a couple of good company's I can get the valued experience needed and get back to driving my own truck as a flatbedder with an all owner operater company. Thanks

    I recommend Builder's Transportation, but as a company driver. Would you be willing to park your rig and run as a company driver to get your year of experience in?

    Brsims thanks for your help and new I am willing to park my truck in order to get some good training with a good company. I will look into builder's transportation.

    TeddyG, you can find our recruiting number on line, just search Builder's Transportation in Memphis. Talk to Aaron or Shelly, do the app online, and we'll be more than happy to see what we can do for you. Let'em know you have your own truck, too. BTC isn't bad for an O/O as long as you don't have a truck note to pay. But we only pay the O/O's 65% of the linehaul. Depending on your experience, we may offer you 28-30% linehaul as a company driver, and you don't have the costs of a truck coming out of your payday. If it were me in your position, I'd do the company driver thing for the experience, then grab my truck and buy a trailer and boogie with my own authority. Just my opinion, though.

    Teddy kinda assume you pulled local in Atlanta, then this is your home base?

    rda2580 yeah Atlanta Georgia has been my local home for over 12 years hauling fuel tankers. Not bad money hauling fuel tankers just need to be able to make more as well as being able to have freedom of time off.
