Well what type of freight do you plan on hauling??
Me I like my enclosed rack. Keeps things outta sight and outta mind. Plus dry.
Do you plan on needing straps and tarps. Chains are good to have, plus I love my rachet binders better than lever binders

Well me I would have about 12 20' long 3/8 chains.. Not 5/16 dog chains...
Same amount of binders. 12/ 16- 4" 40' long straps and rachet winches. Maybe about 10 2" straps as well.
2 good machinery tarps and a couple of steel tarps.. No lumber tarps for me. Plus a bunch of padding material for under the tarps. 6 coil racks and good hard wood beveled lumber if you think you might haul steel coils.
A bunch of bungie cords.. Good rope also.. for tieing down the tarps.
That is just me.. Others might suggest more or less.
Me I'm setup for heavy haul so I have other bigger chains and such..

Some companies won't even consider you for heavy haul with only a years experience. Then there are some that seem to not care about a persons experience level and just feed them to the wolves.

    passingthru69 Thanks this.

    12 - 5/16" x 20' chains
    2 - 5/16" x 14' chains
    10 - snap binders
    4 - ratchet binders
    12 - 4" straps with hook ends
    6 - 4" straps with chain ends
    2 - 4" ratchets
    2 - 4" stake pocket winches
    20 - 2" x 30' straps
    20 - 2" ratchets
    12 - heavy duty 24" vee boards
20 - small red vee boards
    20 - edge protectors
bunch of old 4" strap pieces for protection
    12 - furniture pads
    winch bar
    6 - coil racks
    6 - 8' 4x4's with chamfer
    6 - 8' dunnage 5x4ish

    2 - 16 x 28 tarps
    1 - 16 x 20 tarp
    1 - 16 x 16 tarp
    1 - nose tarp
I also have 2 25x24 tarps with flaps I carry sometimes, when going to northwest mostly.
    150 - 21" bungee's.
OS flags, banners, lights gathering dust.

That's the main stuff, I have a few odds and ends, short chains with rings, hand tools, usually keep a few short pieces of dunnage, 2x4's some nails, etc... crowbar, snips for cutting banding, fifth wheel puller (comes in handy for pulling chains and strap hooks too)

This is what someone posted on an email to me

Theres a couple of headache racks for sale off of I44, between the 25 and the 18 mm - South side - I see them out there. (Missouri).

I went 3/8 chain and 'quickbinders', not much more than regular. Snap binders scare me.

Carpet store or remodelling motel for carpet - local Amish or hardwood mill for dunnage.

That list you got emailed to you - looks like the LS list - they have the whole package for $3700 odd, but you can get by with less for starters till you find your needs.

I posted some pics of stuff I made and gathered on my thread, but I think all up with tools and rack and everything, I dropped close to $5000 setting it up.
