Hi everyone...
I am a stepdeck O/O moving to San Diego, CA in couple of months. Since that area is not as good as Chicago (where I live now), I will be looking for a company that may provide the steady loads from San Diego, CA (+250 miles) to anywhere in the US and back. Of course, I don't have in mind loads paid like 1$/mile or similar. If no such a stepdeck/flatbed loads I would be willing to haul reefer or whatever, as long as its paid well.
Please let me know if you know for such opportunities. If no, please advise how to find it and what to expect financially.
Thanks
Steady stepdeck (or other) loads from San Diego, CA

The Chicago Eastern Euro trucking mafia is spreading it's tentacles.

You're probably going to have to run loads out of L.A./Ontario/Fontana areas. Not much outbound freight from San Diego. However, there's boo-coo stuff coming across the border from Mexico, but then you need to find out where it's final destination is. A lot of it is destined for San Diego. There is a local co. called Osterkamp out of Pomona (flatbed) that runs around Ca./Nv./Az. that may interest you. Good luck.

Step deck freight out of California is scarce and cheap,,companies like Landstar and Mercer have trucks that sit for a week or more waiting for loads,,I suggest that you work on building LTL loads out of Calif unless you want to haul cheap..I did LTLs ona step back in 99 and then on my RGN and made pretty good rates,
Out of the San Diego area moving companies are always shipping small wood crates with household goods to Norfolk,Va paying Ok rates but they must be tarped,,DechkoTzar Thanks this. -
Osterkamp/Frontier is all flatbed, all co. trailers. They do broker a few loads, but in my experience it's been funky, PITA & cheap.
You are going to have to spend the time to network & build relationships with small brokers. Try Blue Ribbon Express for starters, they advertise in 10-4 magazine.
There are a lot of companies that broker out some of their loads. Most of the ones I know are primarily intrastate & I'm reluctant to name any names publicly. It will take you time to figure out the lanes & build the relationships, you could even start by calling on load board offerings.
Good luck & welcome to California!DechkoTzar Thanks this.
