So, a TQL broker calls me about my truck posting. Offers me a load from Scranton, PA to Irving, MA - 45K of paper (van load) picks today, drops tomorrow, 266 loaded miles. I don't want the hassle of New England for the next few weeks, and the rates are so bad that I'd likely have to move 300 miles empty to get a load out, so when he offered me $750, I countered with $1500.
"Why in the world would you need $5.64/mile to go to Mass?" he asks.
When I explain about having to run empty to get out, and just generally not wanting to go to Mass (I forgot to mention the turnpike tolls and expensive fuel), he said "That's a crazy, stupid rate - I'm not going to pay that!"
Ok, thank you! I said.
I did take offense to him using the word stupid to describe what I considered to be a fair rate.
Unprofessional coment from TQL broker today...

Has he called back yet accepting your rate?

TQL always USE TO call me about loads all the time to put on my deck for $1.80 to $2.00 per mile going to places like Florida and Texas where it take an act of congress to get out. I tell them no I cant do it for that kind of money, that I can pull your load for $3.50 minimum to those areas. Its funny though once in a blue moon (like every 4 months) I will get a call from them. I guess they got the idea that I didnt want there cheap ##### freight. IT DOESNT SURPRISE ME OUT OF TQL, they are MONEY GREEDY people, and the bad thing is IMO they dont have the overhead that some of us do.

I would have said, "Perhaps you don't hear to good, or your math in public isn't so good. This truck doesn't run on wind power, and that rate equates to $2.65/mile for all miles."
Good on you for sticking to your guns. Let someone else run in that toll, D.O.T, pot-hole, and idiotic 4-wheeler infested cess pool known as the northeast. -
Lol funny stuff. yeah about as crazy, stupid as any broker posting 1.00 or less on any load.

I got a phone call and PM from TQL about an hour after I posted this. They told me that they'd addressed my concern with the broker in question, and will be working to ensure that communication from the brokers to the carriers is improved.
My hat's off to TQL for following up, even though this wasn't a serious enough issue for me to have contacted them directly. -
Haha!! that is funny.. they're monitoring ttr... But they're sure not paying much attention to our complaints about their agents posting multiple "ghost loads" all with shorter miles than the single real load they are trying to cover at the moment..
Browsing ITS right now and skipping right past multiple postings of TQL "loads" as I'm posting here
- and emailing other brokers who post REAL loads ONE time....DThompsonNGI, loud2ns, BoyWander and 6 others Thank this. -
There is true in both ends: Yes there isn't a thing coming out of there, so what it was asked is not unreasonable.
On the other hand, it is a crazy rate. No customer of common freight is paying anywhere near that rate. That is one of those lanes I spoke about in previous posts, where you as a broker has to eat "it" and put quite a bit on money out of your pocket to move the stupid load. That one you lose and it comes with the territory. We all have them. All you can do is minimize the loss and move on to the next one.
In regards to the language used, I don't really pay attention to it. I've been told much worse by garbage ignorant truckers and brokers out there. Scum that does not belong in the business. I don't take it personal and actually have fun with it. When someone gets "mouthy" I feed more fuel to the fire and laugh about it. When they see there is no one thing that gets to me and I'm actually laughing "at" them, they get even hotter and hang up the phone. -
