The six spd manual tranny in my 2006 Freightliner M2 is running too hot. I just had it rebuilt due to this problem and the prior rebuild only lasted 10 mths. What's causing this issue and how can I address it? So far the mechanics I've talked to are clueless and loving the rebuilds!

If you have the proper oil and NO additives, or Lucas, and the correct level there is no reason to have a heating problem.
Heat will damage the oil, but if the oil is not destroyed, it will not have anything to do with the transmission being damaged.
I take it they have put in synthetic oil, and have a heat tape on it, that gives the max temperature the transmission got to.

I have synthetic in it w/ the correct level. It runs so hot I cannot step in the shifter area barefoot. I was thinking of putting a pump and cooler on it but that seems extreme...still cheaper than another trans in a year though...

I have never seen a cooler on a 6 speed but all things are posible. It would have to be engine run, and it is much preferable it is air cooled, water cooled on a plate off the PTO cover but that opens a whole can of worms with contamination.
