Boss man bought me a new truck at work. 2011 Freightliner M2 with a DD13 and 5 spd auto as a tri axle dump. Never worked on or really driven a detroit. Anything in particular I should be aware of with this motor/truck? Just did its first service on it today and went over everything with a fine tooth comb and still looks good and all fluids are where they should be still haha.

Motor is at 470 hp/1850 ft/lbs of torque.

I had a loaner and it pulled better than the DD15 I usually drive, it probably had more horsepower and torque, mine is 1550 ft lbs torque and 455 HP.

JB Hunt is running lots of them in the shorter version of the Cascadia, they look to be holding up pretty well for them doing the short haul work.

use DEF (AdBlue) made on distiled water. Demineralized water may blok catalistic converter in 2-3 years.

I have 8 in 113" Cascadia sleepers rated at 410hp, To be honest, I like my ISM in my 384 Pete a lot better. That being said, as with ANY short hood truck they are a ##### to work on, unless it is different on the M2 take a look at where the air/fuel pump is on that truck.

It's about a four hour job just to change out the unloader valve. I have already had SEVERAL recalls done on all of the trucks, when they run, they run decent, when they don't, they suck. I will also tell you that the ISM in my Pete CONSTANTLY gets an extra one mile per gallon pulling identical loads with identical trailers, I thought Detroits were suppose to be the fuel mileage kings?

So much for the aero argument!

Haha dont get me started on the fuel mileage! I haven't figured out actual MPG as I fuel up at my shop and our Litres guage on tank is broken BUT it seems to be sucking more fuel then it should be. Guys I run with(different trucks/motors/trannies) seem to be getting a tad bit better fuel mileage.

I'll keep in mind about the DEF. Gonna be looking into getting drums of it to save the old man some coin. Knock on wood, I haven't had to touch it with a tool since we've gotten it. Hope it stays that way until end of November when the construction season push is done with haha.
