    I have a 2007 Century with a 2006 DD Series 60 engine and was wondering if any 2006 engines have a DPF? I am a container driver so this January 1st my truck will not be allowed into the Port of Oakland unless I have a DPF equipped engine.

    By Jan 1st 2014 my truck will have to have a DPF or I cannot drive in California (its my home state so I can't avoid it). A couple drivers I talked to said no 2006 engines had DPF's installed at the manufacturer.

    DPF's came out to meet the 2007 emissions. A 2006 engine would not have a DPF unless someone has already retrofitted one onto the truck. If it is on the truck, it is part of the exhaust system. Do a visual check. If it is there, you should be able to see it.

    Does anyone know how much a DPF retrofit costs? I am also searching the web to see if there are any CA state or county grants to help pay for the DPF installation.

    depending on engine

    for example converting Cummins to DPF is not easy, you have to install CM871 ECM, many other actuators and sensors, DPF control unit, regeneration fuel lines, DPF.....

    but there are non regenerating DPF you can install on any trucktor. When it is clogged it must be removed for cleaning.

    ...and that is where the expense of those "cheaper" units comes in.

    the problem is that DPF regeneration requires more oxigen in exaust and hight temperature + additional fuel injector mounted in muffler.

    so engines with VGT may be equipped by self de ashing DPF.

    06 Series 60 may be converted to regeneratible DPF. But if you wanna retrofit DPF on pre EGR truck with turbo w/o VNT it is possible to retrofit passive DPF only.

    to add DEF (SCR) is possible to Mercedes engine, but not to Series 60. Really new DD 11/13/15/16 are Mercedes OM47X engines.

    I was just looking on the CARB website and they mentioned a PM filter. Is there any difference between a DPF or PM filter? Price?

    DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter
    PM filter = Particulate Matter filter

    Same BS, different name.
