That should not be on A new turbo. I would say that is a warranty issue. You put a 171702 Borg Warner on? There are a lot of Clones out there I have seen a couple one looked like the real thing the other at first look i knew was a Chinese clone. Both had failed within a couple of months of install. I have never seen a failure on a 02 Borg they are a quality unit but i have had many calls with failures from aftermarkets. All product will have failures but OEM quality turbos usually do not. A 171702 will cost around 730$ from a Borg dealer if its much cheaper then that beware. I have seen failures on many aftermarket compressor wheels from various suppliers but never from Borg. If a turbo fails and you bought it from a reputable dealer it will make a bad situation a little easier to deal with. I have been planning on writing a thread on this subject I should get going on it.

Hi rebel127, yes it is a BW 171702, and i paid for it 708$. Can the oil come from the engine? If a turbo has oil leak, it should leak all the time isn't? How comes it leaks sometimes only? I was today with the truck at a mechanic he said the oil may come from the o-rings of the engine, and if this is the problem i must do the head.

The way to tell is pull the turbo from the manifold and look and see if the oil is from the turbo or engine. If the oil showed up rite after the turbo swap i would suspect the turbo. If you have scored liners you will push oil but most likely you would have a constant smoke or blowby issue. The ex valve stem seals could be bad but there is positive pressure there most the time so i would not think you would see oil coming from the turbo.

    bizzzzzz1 Thanks this.

Hello guys, I'm back. Just came back home from a trip. When i changed the turbo i did looked in the exhaust manifold, there was no oil, just everything black from smoke. I did around 8000 miles with the new turbo. It leaked oil again twice, and my mpg went down to 5.5, and smth is wrong for sure. No white smoke or black smoke at all guys. It may have smoke when it leaks oil from the turbo, but since this thing happens once in a while i can't catch it in that very right moment. Any ideeas?
(I know it's winter time, and sometimes i drive with 35mph because of big snow, and idle a lot also, but i don't know if these is the cause of the drop of the mpg)

Driving at 35MPH, and idle time will both affect MPG, as well as some oil slobber.
My old Detroit did it, my old Cat did it, and my current MB does it.
Slow speeds normally mean low engine temperatures too, which will affect MPG etc.
If it isn't the turbo at fault, then leave it alone until you can run normal again. If the turbo MAY be at fault, get it to a dealer etc so they can either replace it FOC, or write down that they will replace it when conditions permit better running.
