I was wondering how are those newer freightliners doing on EGR valves??? Im looking to get into a 14L detroit freightliner. I had a 12.7 detroit until I traded it in almost 3 years ago for a volvo 78O with a volvo d12 engine.

This volvo is horrible when it comes to EGR's. I have one that just went out again and instead of replacing it Im gonna either see if someone will flash my ECM or Im gonna trade it in as I have just a few payments left.

Wondering if the detroits are still up to par like my last detroit that was oh sooooo reliable!!!! I still miss it!!!

I bought a 2007 Century. Mine is a 14L DD S60. It's the last year you could get them without the DPF, they do have an EGR though. I have had Rebel127 tune it, done a bunch of little maintenance to get the power back. Turbo hotside boots to the CAC, Exhaust Man Gasket, fuel line from the filter to the pump because it was kinked, tomorrow the overhead is being done. Delta-P sensor.

I bought it at 708K, I am now at 758K.

I would NOT by a 2008. They had DPF on them.

    nikmirbre Thanks this.

Rebel127 is a guy that tunes DDEC ECM's. He does great work.

EPA04 is the first year of EGR. EPA07 is the first year of the DPF. EPA10 is the first year of DEF.

I had one with a DPF on it, it wasn't as bad as you might think, but it is something else to take care of.

Only time it smoked at all was during a regen. I only had to do parked regens during the winter, and then only if I had city driving most of the week.

I will admit I had less trouble with that truck than my fellow drivers did with some of the others of the same vintage.

The Series 60 DPF engines weren't as badly regarded as Cat, or an ISX.

tuning it can do an EGR delete or he can adjust the fuel curves to run EGR.

Rebel127 would be a better person to answer those questions.
