    Hi

I have a 2004 Freightliner Columbia 15 spd. When shifting I can not air over from low to high on gears 5-8. It works fine in low gears but as soon as I shift into higher gears the air over switch is locked. It wont budge at all.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this? I read it may be a kinked air line in the shifter itself or possibly worse.

    Thanks

really it is 10 st tranny + deep reduction gear, not classical splitter, but you can use splitter in Low Range only, becouse else it would be 20 st tranny ) LOL

Blue knob is deep reduction switch

It's been 14 years since I drove a 15 speed but if I remember right the "blue knob" splitter is only used on the low side. It's deep reduction so it's not supposed to move in high range.

really 15 st is rare tranny here. Drivers prefere simple 10 st ore European 16 st ore 18 st, to use splitter in any range with any gear.

Ok thanks for your replies. I have never driven one like this before so this is new to me. I prefer 18 spds so I feel like a total rookie again driving this one. What does a deep reduction do? I know with 18 spd I can split shift from low gear right up to 18th. This one now I have to only split shift it up to 4th then forget about it? When I get up to I guess 10th? gear it seems I cant go over 100km/h(62mph) and since the speed limit is higher on the main highways AB-MB (I usually switch to high gear on 18th), how does this one work then? Sorry if these are stupid questions but never driven a 10 spd with the deep reduction thing.

That's right you can forget about it on the high side. You don't see many 15 speeds anymore. In fact the last truck I drove that had one was a 1989 International. I think, and I could be wrong so someone please correct me if I am but.........the reason you don't see them is because today's engines have more torque than those from yesterday so it's easier to get up to speed. You really didn't need it back then unless you were under a real heavy load and you don't need it today with more modern engines.
