One thing to bear in mind with the truck in the blog I linked to is that it has wide base drives, a 6X2 setup, and the DT12 transmission mated to the Evolution specific DD15, I don't think with the ISX or other transmissions even behind the DD15 that you would see as good of MPG, it is more than just the Evolution aero package that adds to the high MPG it is the entire truck package. If, the DT12 turns out to be a reliable gearbox, in my opinion, most new Cascadia's will be ordered that way and I think we we see more and more that the computer controlled automated manuals are a large factor in hitting the 10 MPG range.

When this 9 mpg is true,is time to change my truck with the fuelsaving now @6.3 -after 9,i can easy pay every month my truck, spend the same money like before end drive a new truck with full warranty. This is not a bad idea

That is exactly why I was considering buying one. The fuel savings pay for the higher payment and insurance. Plus the peace of mind of warranty and comfort/beauty of a new rig. But here's the thing, I may only be averaging 6.2 now, but the truck will be paid off at the end of 2014. That's a $1230/month raise right there. Yeah, a lot of that will go to maintenance and repairs. But repairs happen occasionally, truck payments are always there. Plus my insurance cost will continue to decrease, and I will have a $25-30 thousand dollar asset on my hands rather than a $2500/month truck payment. It would be nice to get a new one but in the end, if it doesn't make dollars it doesn't make sense...jmo.

Just another thought, let's say you or I were to go out and buy one of these on our own. Say, 7 to 8 year loan, roughly 2400-2500/month...when that truck goes out of warranty at 500k miles, you're going to start having huge repair bills at the same time trying to make that huge payment for years to come. For me, that's just not doable. Like I said it would be nice, but too much risk.

If you're going for fuel mileage perhaps you better first find that "switch" in your head. You don't only DRIVE a truck when you're going 65 mph or faster. When you want more miles per gallon you're only going fast when there's a reason to go fast. You'll find out that there's rarely any reason to find...

It also isn't important how much the motor consumes when idling. You just don't idle your truck, only when it's really hot (or cold)... And even then you feel terrible because you actually don't want to idle your truck...

I bet that when you find your own switch you can get good fuel mileage with any truck. A fuel-efficient truck will help, but you're the one that's gotta do it...

    Good luck..!!

Another plus to having the EPA 14 DD15 engine, is that they drastically reduced the amount of egr going back into the engine. Resulting in better cylinder life, better MPG, and higher cylinder temps resulting in a better burn. The drawback is that more def has to be injected downstream on the exhaust to lower the higher nox PPM counts that the higher cylinder temps create. The DT12 right now seems to be a good, reliable trans. Have not seen any failures yet, but the drawback to that is when something does fail, the dealerships are going to have some trouble at first repairing the problem. As new technology takes some time to figure out

Thanks. Yes I totally hate having to idle and I always feel bad! But I spend many summer nights in Laredo and southwest Arkansas, so I don't have much of a choice. I avoid idling whenever possible. As far as the driving speed goes, maybe a poor choice of words on my part. I need to go at or slightly above 65 whenever possible though. I have a dedicated run from Indianapolis to Laredo and back. Bout a 1310 or so mile trip one way terminal to terminal, and we are expected to do the round trip of 2620mi in 4 days. On that lane there are about two dozen construction zones, some have the potential for big backups. And then there's I35 in Texas, good old Austin, etc.etc..
Being on e-logs that I cannot manipulate whatsoever, I pretty much gotta go fast, well not fast but around 65. All those construction slowdowns and traffic really eat up my 11. I wouldn't mind flipping that switch you mentioned but I gotta get the job done buddy. This drop and hook gig is too great to screw up.

    That totally makes sense..!!

Don't expect to get 9 mpg though, don't think that's going to happen. But with a truck spec'd right you should be able to do better then with your old truck. But it won't save you a truckpayment per month...

    Good luck..!!

PS: Your job would be more then great when you could take the time. 2600 miles in 5 days would give you all the time in the world, save you big dollars and you could do it till far in your eighties... :)
