For me 4 days is 4 driving shifts. I don't just stop for ten hours and go, I'm not trying to run like that. I'm doing good enough, and the work is consistent so I can have a pretty regular schedule. I like having a bit of free time each evening, then get my rest, wake up at a normal hour, and so on. I've tried running 60-62. With all the construction backups, even the zones without backups I'm having to slow to 55 or 45 for many miles, over and over. There really is a huge amount of construction all along this route. Then there's just normal everyday traffic woes and the occasional accident backup. 60 just doesn't cut it unfortunately. If it was 2600 miles of finished interstate out in the sticks then yeah, I could do 60-62 and be fine.

Yeah, that's another reason I decided against buying a new rig. It would be nice, but it's just unnecessary. I'll have my old green Volvo here paid off by the end of 2014. That'll be a $1230/month raise! I'll stick with my 6-6.5 average and the occasional big dollar repair. More $ in my bank in the end.

Well, I see things different but that's another discussion... ;-)

There is a demo Cascadia Evolution in REM's yard. It is a nice truck and it definitely will be good on fuel but if you're happy with your Volvo then why not check in with Volvo, they are working very hard on fuel efficiency too... They have the XE13 package and, perhaps more interesting to you, the XE16. Especially for those who don't have time to waste and still want to save fuel...

    I quote:

The older truck is not only the big repair every now and then but it's also unexpected downtime. The older the truck, the bigger the chance having to go in the shop getting something fixed. And you know just as I know that it's not easy to get into a dealer these days.

In the past two months, since he bought it, my neighbor has spent more time in the shop with his new 579 than I have spent in the shop all year with my '05 Columbia. Those $2100 payments aren't covered under his warranty.

I drove an Evolution for about a month almost 9k miles. Averaged 8.5 mpg and would go about 4k miles on half tank of def. truck governed at 63. Midwest driving and some northeast, one run through West Virginia. Mixed loads. Some heavy up to 45k, dry van. It was a condo and I wasn't a trainer, so had to turn it back in for a new trainer that needed the condo.

This is the first negative report on the Pete 579 I have found on this board. Do you know his specs and what his problems with it have been? I have one on order so am very curious about your friends difficulties.

PACCAR motor was throwing a code when he picked the truck up. Multiple sensor issues, a bad wiring harness to one sensor, a couple of leaking wheel seals, they keep changing fuel filters, and some picky little stuff that you just want right when you're spending that much of your own $$$.

He does love the truck. I'd love almost anything if I was getting out of a '99 Century with 1.5 million hard miles on it.

In the process of purchasing Coronado with ISX15, weight in the range of 65000, will cruise 65mph, 13 speed Eaton Ultra shift, tires right now are 295 80R/22.5. What is the recommendation for rear axle ratio to keep my fuel consumption low-really like to keep my rpms at 1100-1200. Figures I am getting seem way to high, 3.42 but think it should be less. I'll never carry anymore weight. Thoughts?

My truck is coming with an ISX so hopefully those issues won't apply to me. My old truck is a '97 International w/ 2.95 million miles on it. 1.4 million since it was O/H'd. I'm kinda lookin' forward to the new one....

The co. I'm leased to has 15- 386's with ISX motors. They have have been relatively trouble free so far. Our mechanic says he's glad they're leased. He figures they'll get turned back in at about 450K which is when he believes the major issues begin.
