vpod?

    I have an 05 freightliner century,while running it does fine but ehen I start to pull a hill or take off with a traler it starts to cough and sputter snd i get massive amounts of black smoke! I had the EGR system replaced and another.driver said vpod isout? Any help would be great! !

    It needs to be diagnosed. The VPOD (Variable Pressure Output Device) controls pressure to the turbo vanes to control turbo speed. It is simple to diagnose with Detroit software and an air pressure gauge. Don't just start throwing parts at it without diagnosing.
