Truck has an issue with the radio volume going out during the day. Sometimes the dash gauges will sweep also. Never get any lights (check engine) or does the truck lose power. Any ideas?

Sounds like a short. The truck will not give a check warning light for the issues you mention unless the component is connected to the ECM brain. Sometimes when a capacitor or sensor is going out it will affect the electrical components. Also; An improper grounding will cause issues. Had one of those on my truck in 2007.

I'd lay money on wiring harness from ECM to firewall

Thanks for the replies. And thank MNdriver. This guy has a C-13 Cat in his truck. But I do have another guy at the shop that has an electrical issue that has a Detroit and this will help. This guy with the radio/dash problem will be in Friday so I will get a look at it then. He stopped by the shop briefly the other day and I did a very quick look over on it.

The problem is most likely in the fuse panel behind the drivers seat. Start by inspecting it.

I had one that the battery box cover was grounding off on bumps or corners. It would sweep gages and even do a full system shut down like all power and lights off when running thru the I-40 canyons.
