First let me introduce myself...
They call me by many names, I answer to all!.... but mostly Philip...
First truck I drove was an International , cab over with a 5/4.... so many yrs ago I can't remember...... It did however get me through school and into an alternate profession...
I am now retired (45yrs later), and have joined my son in an O/O situation. He rolls the rubber and I the remainder of the Co.
WE have an 07 FreightLiner, ddec 5, 14L with an Fuller ultrashift. When we acquired the rig it had (500K mls) 850K kms, well looked after, but the fuel consumption was horrendous (4-4.4mpg)...
After much research, I cobbled together (The slug) an EGR/atmospheric eliminator (thanks to many on this forum).
The truck now runs substantially better, no smoke/stumble, much better economy (6-7mpg)..
My son now reports an issue, with the slug installed, he has very little "Jake action" and since we have very steep/high mountain roads in this region he has asked if there is a way to induce the Jake to work better.
NOTE: with the OEM sensor there is enough Jake to slow the truck on these steep declines..

So, in summary, the Jakes still work with the OEM setup, but not with your modification installed?
Has he tried it both ways since the issue started? If not he needs to.
As far as why it happened, it is almost impossible to say without knowing exactly what you did.
If you copied another design to the T, then you could call that designer and ask them (but be prepared for a piece of someones mind).
If the Jakes are coming on, but in position II instead of position III, then that may be able to be diagnosed with the DDEC software.

Yes! the Jake works with the OEM sensor, But only comes in at 7% with the slug... (have run it both ways several times)..
I shall connect the DDEC software in the coming week, and/or run an Oscilloscope on the sensors..
I suspect the PCM is not seeing the required feedback voltage to allow the Turbo to spool back... Philip -
So, just to refresh my memory, it has the VVG turbo on it?
EGR and DPF, or just EGR?

I have not delved too far into the new rig yet (09 S60 engine) as it is still under warranty and only has 11,000 miles on it!
I would guess that the modification is stumping the VVG turbo though, and having knock on effects from there.

Your "slug" is messing with the computer probably making it think it's always running above 6500 feet. I tried the same gimmick. You replace the baro sensor basically with a 10Kohm resistor or some other thing to make it think that.
When you do that, the ECM won't see a true change in pressures and sets your fuel and timing curves at a set point. Almost like it would "de-rate" it.
It's as if you are constantly running at high altitude really.
Get rid of the slug.
Make sure ALL other things are fixed mechanically on your engine as well.

Then fire that ECM off to Rebel 127 and let him work his magic. -
Ahh,so that is what a "slug" is.
On my last rig, when I got to Wy, it would lose boost and engine braking due to the altitude of the state. Sounds like you tricked it into thinking it was at higher elevation, thus it derated the turbo/jakes.
